On taking up the role with Northern Education, Estelle said: ‘I am pleased to have been invited to Chair Northern Education and look forward to continuing a link with the North East. The region has made real progress in recent years but the challenge to make sure young people get the chances they need is one that will need to be continually addressed. Ian KershawManaging Director Northern Education Northern Education
Ian was previously Director of the successful Easington and Seaham Education Action Zone, after his leadership of Sidney Stringer Community Technology College in Coventry, where leadership and management was described by Ofsted as outstanding. Ian led the DFES pilot for the New Relationship for Schools in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and is an accredited NCA and SIP for secondary and special schools.

Roger Alston OBE Director of Transforming Schools Northern Education
The former headteacher of William Howard School in Cumbria, Roger leads on the development of our support and challenge services as well as developments on new forms of schooling, trusts and federations.

Kevin McAleese CBE Vice Chair & Director of Operations Northern Education
Kevin was Headteacher of Harrogate Grammar School, a large North Yorkshire comprehensive, after a first headship in Essex. He is an accredited SIP and negotiates and manages all our contracts.

Brian McCafferty Director of 14-19 Northern Education
Brian is a former HMI and chief adviser to Ofsted for vocationally related education. He has provided senior consultancy support for a range of 14-19 programmes and the national strategies. Brian leads on our 14-19 initiatives.

Brian Oglethorpe Director of Quality and Performance Northern Education
Brian was formerly Chief Inspector of Schools in Sunderland and previously founder headteacher of Oxclose Community School, Washington, which was described at the time by HMI as an outstanding example of a Community School. Brian leads on our recruitment and interim management services.
